Word Tip of the Week: Bulleting and Numbering
Less heralded, but immensely useful the bulleting and numbering tools are excellent additions to Word’s repertoire. Bullets are most useful for listing information in a clear, organized manner. Click your browser to where you want your bullet and then hit the bullet button (which should be located on the main Word console display). When you have finished writing for your first bullet, hit “Enter/Return” on your keyboard and a new bullet will appear on the next line for you to input text. The same process applies for numbering, except that their is a separate button for the numbering tool (also located on the main console). When it comes to transcription and data entry, eDecree is number one in quality, service, and price. We provide unbeatable quality for fantastic prices, and we can have your audio transcribed in as little as 12 hours. Our data entry is quick, accurate, and cheap. So if you are looking to trim your Back Office costs, look no further than eDecree. Go to our website (www.edecree.com) to learn more.

First Quarter 2010 Part 1 of 4: New Outsourcing Techniques in Play
For the first quarter 2010, expectations and estimates are high, buoyed by the continued recovery of the economy from the recession. And although there have been job cuts and closing of centers in some outsourcing companies such as Convergys (NYSE:CVG) who is laying-off of 677 people in Albuquerque in the US as it closes its center there; the outlook still remains positive. Creativity has become a must for outsourcing companies now as they have to work harder for their bread and butter. The continued economic recovery and the increase in competition is slowly driving down prices of commodities and services that once were outsourced to cheaper counterparts globally. Thus some companies are adopting non conventional techniques to expand their business. Infosys (NASDAQ:INFY) is one such company who’s currently adopting non-conventional strategies by deciding to further their expansion efforts towards smaller cities in India rather than the bigger cities. A highly unprecedented move to say the least since in years past, companies have been focusing on global expansions in regions such as the Latin America’s , and only in urban rather than rural areas. Other corporations such as Capgemini (EURONEXT:CAP) are adopting techniques employed by Indian BPO’s which is hiring fresh graduates from campuses in order to expand their workforce. Costs will be low considering that salaries would not have to be so high to start off, however with the recovery in sight and many companies now able to provide the salary increases that was, in the not so distant past, withheld due to the recession, then attrition will most likely increase as the months pass. Meanwhile, another provider, little known company Harva , is increasing their workforce by hiring only women from rural areas and training them to work in the business process outsourcing industry.

Jeff Jarvis And Parsons’ Students Agree on iPad–It’s For Consuming Media, Not Creating It.
When Apple first announced the iPad, I asked students at Parsons what they thought of it and they immediately said it was for consumption, not creation of content. No camera, no USB, no flash–not much to remix and make. They weren’t going to buy it. Maybe their parents would to watch TV and read newspapers. I just read Jeff Jarvis this morning on the iPad and he totally agrees and goes further, saying that it is perfect for the mainstream media giants and Apple who are into controlling content and selling it . In fact, Jarvis says it’s a throwback to another era before the net was democratized and we all got the tools to make our own content.

New Jobs In The Economic Recovery? Try Communications
Mike Mandel is the best economist I know and he’s predicting that the fastest growing job segment in the recovery that is starting will be in communications . Mike’s Second Law of Booms and Busts says that jobs that tend to recover in the bust also tend to lead the boom. So, looking at the stats that are being published now on new job growth, what does Mike see? The latest batch of stats from Washington show a surge of jobs in the broad categories of “internet publishing and search,” “computer systems design,” and “wireless.” Mike is interpreting these numbers to mean that a broadly-defined media boom will lead the US economy for the years ahead. By “media,” he includes health-care related apps ( Future Well ), mobile payments via cell phones, and all Facebook-Google-Apple platform stuff. I would also include e ducation, which is undergoing a massive de-massing and switch to social media platforms .

Law Firm Evolution or Revolution?
Two weeks ago the Georgetown Center for the Study of the Legal Profession at Georgetown Law School hosted a conference, Law Firm Evolution: Brave New World or Business As Usual? My colleagues Liam Brown (CEO) and Mark Ross (VP Legal Services), who also attended, agree that this rated as one of the best ever conferences about large law firms. Rarely have I seen such a good selection of topics and mix of panelists, who included managing partners, consultants, academics, and vendors. Well-known presenters included Ralph Baxter (Orrick), Mark Chandler (Cisco GC), Jeff Carr (FMC GC), Richard Susskind (writer and leading legal “futurist”), Dan DiPietro (Citi private banking ), and Adam Smith, Esq

Happy Future for Outsourcing in 2010
Horses for Sources, the foremost social networking community and advisory analyst firm, published its first research report – “The IT Outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing Industry Landscape in 2010”. The report was conducted on the basis of the opinion of 1,055 senior executives involved with either buying, selling or advising outsourcing services. According to the report the year of 2010 is primed to be very strong for outsourcing adoption. In particular, IT outsourcing is expected to peak this year. The delivery models for standard ITO services are mature and scalable enough to cope with the demand. Some other key findings of the report are: – The middle-market ($750m-$3000m annual revenues) is poised to be the most active. – Customers are anticipating more business benefits from outsourcing than merely driving out some initial cost. More than half of all customers cite the need to globalize and transform processes as prime outsourcing motives. And this is across all size classes of customers. The need to globalize is impacting all companies, and outsourcing is providing one vehicle to help firms achieve it

Facebook over takes Google as the most visited site; why?
It seems fitting in a week when Facebook reportedly overtook Google as the most visited site on the Internet to try to revisit exactly why social networks are rapidly becoming the transforming force for business created by the new era of technology (whatever we define that technology era to be based on, or to include; i.e cloud, web 2.0, mobility, collaboration, etc). But first back to the report by HitWise who analyse numbers of web visits and have, by the narrowest of margins, positioned Facebook in the lead with 7.07 % over Google at 7.03%. This also means that just these two sites – Facebook and Google – account for more than 14% of all visits on the web today. Put another way, 1 in 8 online activities is concerned with either finding content, or interacting with people, around a shared topic. In the external context of consumers deciding what to buy, the impact of how we decide what to buy from any business is reflected by the growing focus in how that business’s products and services appear in an online world. We all know that it is wise to research any significant purchase to find what is on offer, and where to buy at the best price, hence why we refer to ‘googling’, but why did Facebook grow an astonishing 185% in the year? Traditional Chinese holiday—Qingming
Qingming is one of the twenty-four solar terms that the ancient Chinese gave to the twenty-four divisions of their year. Qingming is also one of the most important festivals in China which comes with in ten days before or after April the 5 th every year. It originated from ceremonial worship of ancient emperors’ tombs. Latter on, the practice was generally adopted by the public to pay tribute to ancestors. On that day, people visit and sweep forefather’s tomb, recalling love and memory of the late family members. Although Qingming is a festival of mourning, it does not have to be sad. Since the festival falls in spring, it is a great time for outdoor activities such as football, swinging and tree planting. Cuisine on Qingming is special. In ancient times, people did not make fire on that day so they ate prepared cold food instead.

Apple’s iPad has tremendous buzz and will hit the stores this weekend–with Boomer’s loving it, techies hating it and mainstreaming media hoping it means salvation. The ROI For Strategic Change Management In Outsourcing
Why do outsourcing initiatives fail? The author believes poor change management is to blame. Poor change management translates into: slower speed of adoption; lower ultimate utilization; lower proficiency.
