First Quarter 2010 Part 4 of 4: Strategic Outsourcing Partnerships Abound in March

What have certainly abounded this first quarter are the strategic partnerships that have been formed among different types of companies across the industry. Efforts to diversify their product offerings are at the root of this trend as competition for outsourcing contracts increases. Just for this quarter alone, there has been a surge in strategic partnerships being formed especially among smaller outsourcing companies. For the IT outsourcing industry, spend management, sourcing and procurement services provider Perfect Commerce announced a partnership with fellow IT and procurement outsourcing provider Corbus LLC. The two companies are combining their expertise in spend management, technology expertise and continuous process improvement in order to offer better services to their clients.

First Quarter 2010 Part 3 of 4: Notable Contracts Are Won

For the first quarter of 2010, there were some notable outsourcing contracts established, albeit they’re not the ‘mega deals’ of old, but substantial they are still. It was data and advisory firm TPI , who projected on the 18th of March that the global outsourcing contract volume is set to increase this 2010.  The Economic Times even projects that $1 billion worth of outsourcing contracts are headed for India this year.  These contracts, as Everest Group’s Gaurav Gupta stated are typically in the range of $50-100 million.  He further adds that Indian IT services vendors currently have some mega outsourcing contracts in the pipeline. One such contract is Punjab & Sind bank’s contract with Indian IT Company Wipro (NYSE:WIT) on the 24th of February, wherein the two companies signed a 10-year comprehensive IT outsourcing contract.  A deal that had previously been awarded to Satyam (NYSE:SAY) .  The contract featured prominently in the news due to the failure of the previous contract with Satyam. But what we estimate as one of, if not the largest contract for the quarter is the $200 million IT outsourcing contract of Accenture (NYSE:ACN) with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for the development, maintenance and running of the applications of the hotel.  The deal was signed on the 15th of March.  The deal sits high on the list of substantial deals for this quarter as Starwood Hotels (NYSE:HOT) is one of the biggest hotel and leisure companies in the world, including, Westin, Le Meridian and Sheraton. There are other equally notable deals that have gone through this quarter, including contract extensions such as CSC’s (NYSE:CSC) contract extension with United Technologies Corporation which is projected to add over $1.5 billion in value to the existing contract in a five-year period that was announced on the 18th of March; and Lockheed Martin’s (NYSE:LMT) contract extension with NASA, which has an estimated value of approximately $230 million. The contracts are just beginning to pour in.  This March, the amount of contracts being won has been steadily increasing with the economy’s recovery.  It is expected that the pace and value of the contracts will increase further by year’s end and perhaps we will see the ‘mega deals’ return once again. First Quarter 2010 Part 2 of 4: Prospects in Outsourcing

Prospects for outsourcing in the current year seem very bright indeed; this is according to different surveys and market estimates indicated during this first quarter. On the 6th of January, PriceWaterhouseCoopers released a survey which found that the outsourcing industry is changing due to the emergence of new service providers from all over the world and not just the US or India. As indicated in a previous article , companies have been steadily expanding their businesses by establishing facilities in new locations all over the world such as Africa and Egypt, which shows that outsourcing companies are expecting bigger business ahead and are diversifying their product offering. IT research and advisory company, Gartner (NYSE:IT), indicated in a survey on the 15th of March that 85% of organizations are anticipating spend on external service providers to increase or stay the same as the economy recovers. The company estimates that Indian BPO market will grow by 19% through 2013, becoming a $1.8 billion market. Previous hesitation on the part of corporations in investing on IT spending will be largely assuaged in the coming months as the recovery continues

First Quarter 2010 Part 1 of 4: New Outsourcing Techniques in Play

For the first quarter 2010, expectations and estimates are high, buoyed by the continued recovery of the economy from the recession. And although there have been job cuts and closing of centers in some outsourcing companies such as Convergys (NYSE:CVG) who is laying-off of 677 people in Albuquerque in the US as it closes its center there; the outlook still remains positive. Creativity has become a must for outsourcing companies now as they have to work harder for their bread and butter. The continued economic recovery and the increase in competition is slowly driving down prices of commodities and services that once were outsourced to cheaper counterparts globally. Thus some companies are adopting non conventional techniques to expand their business. Infosys (NASDAQ:INFY) is one such company who’s currently adopting non-conventional strategies by deciding to further their expansion efforts towards smaller cities in India rather than the bigger cities. A highly unprecedented move to say the least since in years past, companies have been focusing on global expansions in regions such as the Latin America’s , and only in urban rather than rural areas. Other corporations such as Capgemini (EURONEXT:CAP) are adopting techniques employed by Indian BPO’s which is hiring fresh graduates from campuses in order to expand their workforce. Costs will be low considering that salaries would not have to be so high to start off, however with the recovery in sight and many companies now able to provide the salary increases that was, in the not so distant past, withheld due to the recession, then attrition will most likely increase as the months pass. Meanwhile, another provider, little known company Harva , is increasing their workforce by hiring only women from rural areas and training them to work in the business process outsourcing industry.

Economic Recovery Brings More Global Expansions in Outsourcing

It was English historian Edward Gibbon who said that that, “all that is human must retrograde if it does not advance”, and in outsourcing , this is likewise the case. As the end of the first quarter draws near, it is noticeable that business expansion among outsourcing companies have become more marked, and is in various different parts of the world. Companies are expanding their global presence in anticipation of more business in different fields such as legal process outsourcing (LPO), business process outsourcing (BPO) and information technology (IT) outsourcing. It is encouraging that the anticipation of the influx of business for the outsourcing industry has been steadily rising since the start of 2010. It would seem that despite the effects of the recession having barely begun to wane, outsourcing companies are still expecting a better outlook. In the US, IT consulting and outsourcing company ENTAP Inc announced its expansion into the Washington DC market on the 22nd of March. The company opened a new facility which will cater to federal government agencies and prime contractors. Government outsourcing contracts have become a big trend now, as governments try to find ways to stretch their limited budgets. Meanwhile on the following day, business process outsourcing company Knoah Solutions also announced the opening of a new contact center in Las Vegas, Nevada in order to meet the growing demand for contact center outsourcing services

Obama’s Healthcare Reform Bill Means More Business for Healthcare Outsourcing

With the passage of the historic, although much maligned, Obama healthcare reform bill in the US, a new opportunity has opened up for outsourcing companies as hospitals and insurance providers will now be seeking ways of minimizing expenses. Since the Obama Healthcare Reform bill was passed on the 23rd of March, the news has been all a-flutter with the potential benefits that this bill presents to outsourcing providers.  According to Nasdaq and the Times of India , outsourcing firms such as Firstsource Solutions (NYSE:FSL BOM:532809) and WNS (NYSE:WNS) are now planning to increase their onshore presence in the US to help them win contracts by expanding their relationships while maintaining potential clients at arm’s length, building trust.  Other companies such as Genpact (NYSE:G) in the meantime, are looking for possible mergers and acquisitions with other companies so that they can broaden their expertise and take advantage of more business from the healthcare industry.  The company is said to be searching for companies that offer revenue cycle management, process optimization and clinical and non-clinical supply chain management for insurance firms and providers. The bill however, does not pose a large scale opportunity for technology outsourcing providers such as HP EDS (NYSE:HPQ), and IBM (NYSE:IBM), as existing technology platforms will likely remain as is.  It will be business process outsourcing providers (BPO’s) who can offer front and back office assistance to clients who will benefit more from the bill as potential clients like insurance providers will need to focus more on key business processes.  Analysts speculate that several other different companies including Patni Computer Systems (NYSE:PTI), Cognizant (NASDAQ:CTSH), Infosys (NASDAQ:INFY) and Wipro (NYSE:WIT) may also benefit from the bill.

Silver Spring, MD , February 01, 2010 — With the 2010 tax filing season underway, many Silver Spring taxpayers may be wondering where to turn for help in filing their annual tax returns . For them and the millions of taxpayers who will reach out for professional tax preparation now and over the next few months, the question is, what exactly should taxpayers look for when choosing a tax preparer? “Each year there are new or changed tax rules , making it hard for taxpayers to stay abreast of all the information that may affect their individual lifestyle and financial situation,” said John J. Lah, MBA, CFA, and Owner of Silver Spring Four Corners Jackson Hewitt Tax Service®. “Plus, 2009 brought a range new ‘pro-consumer’ tax changes driven by the Economic Stimulus Plan. Sitting down with a tax preparer to discuss your individual situation can definitely be beneficial – as long as you select the right resource.” The team at the Jackson Hewitt – Four Corners office, which has been serving the Silver Spring area taxpayers , offers its top tips for finding the right tax preparer for an individual’s needs: · Experience : Select a tax preparation company and/or tax preparer who is well-established, in other words, has been in business for many years and has experience preparing many different types of individual income tax returns . Taxpayers will want to ensure that the tax preparer can handle your unique needs, whether you have an easy return with one W-2 or have a more complicated return – for example, because you are self-employed. · Knowledge : Taxpayers will want to ensure that the tax preparer is up-to-date on the new and changed tax laws , has state-of-the-art tax preparation software and has quality training on the current tax laws. How to Make a Website that ACTUALLY WORKS

About six weeks ago, one of my blog readers told me something that really pissed me off: “you don’t put your actions were your mouth is. You write all these great articles on how to create effective websites but your own site doesn’t follow the advice you give.” She was right. We’ve been so busy helping clients grow their companies that for the last 5 years we didn’t update our website at all. Most of our clients come from word-of-mouth anyway, so I figured it didn’t really matter. But Tanya (my blog reader) was right. We needed a website that reflects all the marketing principles we preach. That’s exactly what we did. Last week we launched our new site and I want to share with you all the marketing tactics we’re using so you can get an idea or two for your own business. We Re-Wrote Our Copy This is what we did: We made our headlines bigger and red to attract people’s attention. We showed our prospects that we understand their problem and we have a solution for them
